Life and Work
Alice Mary (Fonter) Ellithorpe was born in Derbyshire, England in 1898. She came to Calgary in 1912 on the day of the first Calgary Stampede. In 1914 she married Ralph Clinton Ellithorpe. Together they farmed and had nine children. Their home often served as an eating spot for people travelling between Olds and Sundre. The Ellithorpes moved several times.
During the war, Alice raised pigs to support her family while her husband was off at war.
She was also involved in numerous community organizations including the United Church Ladies' Aid, Women's Institute and was the first president of Sundre United Church Women.
She passed away in 1977.
