Life and Work

Emma and her husband Claude, originally from Ontario, farmed northeast of Trochu. Emma had studied botany at Guelph University, reflected in the tasteful garden she kept. Emma taught in the one-room schools of Alderside and Donaldson and organized community events through the Donaldson Ladies Community Club. People like Hazel Arvidson remember the fun but simple games she ran at her picnics.

Upon retirement to the village of Trochu, Emma's contributions to the community continued. She was instrumental in the founding of the Trochu Public Library to which she made a generous donation. She also established scholarships for the highest achievers in Grades 11 and 12 at Trochu Valley School.
