Our People - The Athlete
1904-2001
Description
Murray was raised in Edgerton, and as Winds of Change contributor Leonard D'Albertanson, says “carried the fame of Edgerton into big league circles of Canada's national sport.” Murdoch began playing for the New York Rangers during their inaugural 1926 season, as one of the first players signed by Conn Smythe, and was an active Ranger until 1937. During the course of his career Murdoch played in six hundred consecutive games, earning the title of hockey's first “Iron Man.” Following his time in New York, Murray went on to coach Yale University's Hockey Club for twenty seven years.
