Life and Work
Ruth Dearing is unique in the way that much of her life was spent in various positions of leadership. Her 59 years of active service at the Prairie Bible Institute in evangelical Christian education was an issue at times, yet she chose to carry out tasks traditionally undertaken by men. These tasks included teaching theology and preaching occasionally. She held numerous leadership responsibilities and with typical understatement Dearing remarked: "It was just about too much to do anything really well, but I tried to do it all."
In the later part of her lifetime, Ruth began studying Greek for her personal enrichment and was asked to take over a few Greek classes when the Greek professor left. She also studied Hebrew at the Graduate School at the Prairie Bible Institute. Her religious principles gave her the freedom to lead and to minister to others.
