Life and Work

Elsie Bennett visits the Autumn Glen Lodge and Poplar Grove Home (seniors' lodge) to take people shopping, to church, to medical appointments or out for tea. She volunteers two half-days a week at the Innisfail Hospital extended care unit and visits patients.

She lived in the Knee Hill Valley district, but now lives in Innisfail where she tends to her vegetable and flower gardens. She canvassed for the Canadian Cancer Society in her neighbourhood and assists with visitations as a member of Innisfail United Church.

A member of the Knee Hill Valley Women's Institute, she knitted for the war effort and has sewn quilts for each of her grandchildren. She works with the Innisfail Historical Society, looking after exhibits in the museum's log house.

She helps neighbours in distress, those who have lost family members and those needing care for their children. Elsie has one daughter and three sons.
