Pat Newman became the first woman on the Innisfail Town Council in 1980. Elected to the mayor's chair eight years later, she was re-elected to office in 1995.
Since moving to Innisfail, she has worked with the recreation and library boards, the kindergarten association and the Innisfail Figure Skating Club. She contributes to other volunteer projects, such as the Christmas Bureau and has served as president of the Rotary Annes. She taught sewing to 4-H Club members and various community groups throughout Central Alberta.
Patricia and her husband Robert purchased the Ford dealership in 1966 after living in Saskatoon, Montreal, Grande Prairie and Red Deer. They raised their three daughters in Innisfail. A few years ago, Pat retired from her duties as mayor and has participated in the Innisfail Historical Village Strawberry Festival (a fair featuring strawberries, shortcake and a fiddler's jamboree).
