Danish Canadian National Museum

The Danish Canadian National Museum invites you to explore the rich history of Danish immigrants in Canada - a saga that began over 1000 years ago in L'Anse aux Meadows and follows three waves of immigration through to the modern day.

Constructed in 1933, the Verbena Dormitory served as a boarding house for high school girls from the surrounding area. It is now home to over 5000 artifacts and archival records, four exhibit rooms, a gift shop that carries Danish import goods, and an authentic “Taste of Denmark” in the Saga Café. In addition to the Verbena Dormitory, the 14-acre grounds host many highlights including the Dagmar Pioneer Church, Thomsen Cabin, Nielsen CPR House, the Freydis Joanna-replica Viking Ship housed in the Naust, Jelling Stone, heritage garden, pond with our very own mermaid and scenic walking paths.

We invite visitors to wander the beautiful grounds, take in the exhibit spaces, and enjoy lunch and a beverage in the café or on the deck overlooking the serene pond. Interpretive tours are available.

Keep an eye on our website or Facebook page for information on upcoming events for the season! We annually host celebrations for Summer Solstice/St. Hans Fest, Æbleskiver & Jam Day on July 1, and Viking Days the third weekend in August. The latter features the largest annual gathering of Viking re-enactors in North America.

The picturesque grounds are a beautiful backdrop for your own special event. It is the perfect venue for weddings and family reunions. The Dagmar Church is consecrated and can seat 24 for intimate celebrations or book our event tents for larger celebrations. Contact us now to arrange a special day for you!
